Natalia Tena's face reminds me vaguely of Claudia Christian. IDK why. I've decided she's sufficiently cute for the part, though. 6 hours and I'll know if she's sufficiently good enough of an actress for the part.

Edit: No, it's not CC that she reminds me of. It's Terry Farrell! In the one picture, at least.

So. More about the Harry Potter ticket saga.

The theatre near us was progressively getting more and more sold out, and I couldn't get dad to give me a ride down there for tickets. Finally, it's all sold out, and I'm rather pissed, because it's another example of how my dad's king of the pocket veto. I check again on Monday evening, just out of some kind of blind hope, and lo and behold all 5 midnight showings no longer say sold out. I assumed they released more tickets or something, so on his way down to the church council meeting (because the priest called in June and asked if he would do it, because they were short a person, so he and mum are sharing a seat) he runs me by. I go up to the little ticket buying machine thing, the machine says they're all sold out. I get home, call the theatre and ask about the whole tickets/sold out thing, the lady says her machine says they're sold out and she'll have the manager look into the website. I give her my phone number just in case and ask her to call me either way (because I knew that I'd be checking the website thrice an hour if I didn't know). During one of those thrice an hour checks, I saw that they were starting to say 'sold out' again, and sure enough, as I refreshed, they all moved to sold out. The lady calls back, tells me that they're definitely all sold out and they won't know if there are any seats until the movie starts (naturally) and apologizes and such, which was nice.

So I was still a little bit angry that dad's indecision was preventing us from going to the midnight show, but I figure that this way I'll at least be able to finish book 5 on my reread before I go. I hung around in bed all morning finishing GoF (I've got a chapter to go still, but I've been doing other stuff since I got up preventing me from actually sitting down and finishing it), and then I get up and ask if anybody called (because the people at the theatre said they'd call if anything opened up), Dad says no, I go to the computer and look up these other few theatres that had a midnight show that was still open, ask him if he'll take us to one of these, one conversation bit leads to another, and it turns out that when I was still in bed reading, he called around and found tickets at one of the farther away ones. So that was lovely. Turns out my sister called this morning and mentioned that our cousin (who's a little less than a year older than me) is taking her to the midnight show up in Vermont, and Dad prolly felt bad because the youngest sibling is going and I'd put so much work into trying to find tickets and such.

So fun there. I also put a call into the local Freecycle for knitting supplies because my dad (or mum, I don't remember) was talking about teaching a class at one of the gifted programs with knitting being part of it, and the supplies are the limiting factor (reactant, LOL [/chemistry joke]) there, so we needed to find out what we could get first. (That and I wanted a set of circular needles.) Already got one reply, which is lovely, though I'm going to have to try to figure out how to get the stuff, as the lady is a good 20 miles out of our way.

We just got a thing from our bank offering free tickets to any movie that starts between 6:30 and 7:30 at some theatre on the 12th. So, looks like I'll be going to Harry Potter the day after it comes out. Though there's something to be said about hitting the midnight show (which I've never actually done before, because my sister always wants to come and was too young), and we've never not gone on the day it comes out, I can't pass up free.

Edit: Or not, because this theatre is showing 8 movies that I've never heard of. Ever. In my life. My brother got it mixed up with another similarly named theatre when he went to look up what was playing, so turns out we're not going (at least to HP) for free.

From an email from my mate Katie, who's in France with the school's foreign exchange program at the moment:

I've found your gift when I was in Paris and it is safely tucked in my bag. However, I'm still winning at life 'cause guess what: I saw Jason Issacs. The Harry Potter premier was in Paris and we were shopping near the theater where the premier was taking place.

The pertinent bit of my reply:

Oh, and NO BLOODY WAY. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TELL ME THAT IT IS HE THAT YOU HAVE SAFELY TUCKED IN YOUR BAG, BECAUSE THEN YOU WOULD BE EVEN MORE MADE OF WIN.
*kicks self* I should have taken French. I should have taken French.

I didn't get down to the movie theatre to buy tickets, and now the midnight IMAX Order of the Phoenix is sold out. Sadness.

So, I've been rereading all the Harry Potter books in order again in preparation for the last one. (On a side note, it's surely impressive on JKR's part that I can reread these after having read them literally a dozen times each and still laugh at the funny bits.) I started Thursday, just reading them before bed, and I'm 2/3 through Prisoner of Azkaban now, and I came up with a fic this afternoon, while reading it. Hermione/Hermione timeturner secks. I had the logistics of it all planned out in my head, when you'd have to turn it to meet yourself after knowing what you were planning on doing, and how it would be this endless loop of time twisting (I get off on temporal theory), and I come to the computer tonight to check my email, and I happen to search for fic, just randomly, and what do I find on a page of recs, but this exact fic. Ahh, the wonders of the collective brain of fandom.

Hey, mister Harry Potter VII hacker? Here's a tip. You want people to take your little posting seriously? Post the whole book. Try using things like grammar in your post. I mean, hell, I can barely figure out what you're saying. I can't figure out what you're saying in bits. *shakes head* Supposedly you can write code enough to take down a v. well protected corporation's system, but you can't write intelligibly. yeahsure.

I think that this book is going to be the one that people in fandom ignore. Not ignore as in don't read, but ignore as in regarding fic. There's always the one, you know? "Divided Loyalties" in Babylon 5, "Loss" in SVU, etc. HP fandom has been surprisingly closely tied to the books, that I've seen, though I've seen the ignoring to a certain extent with OotP, ignoring Sirius's death (though I'm not always sure if those were written before or after the book came out). But it's going to be huge with this one, methinks, with the whole Snape debate. People have come out strongly on one side or the other (me? I'm strongly on the wanting to believe he's a good guy side, but I've got the sneaking suspicion she's going to make him not), and especially with those pairings that involve him/the Death Eaters, I don't think people are going to change their HPverse-view one way or the other when the book comes out.

I've got to admit, I'm excited about July. I was in HP fandom before I knew what HP fandom was (my first website at age 8 or so was running an HP RPG-ish thing that a bunch of people played in until the big Warner Bros takeover/legal scare), and though I've become somewhat disenchanted with JKR's work as I've gotten older (I just didn't like HBP very much, plain and simple) and have never quite gotten into modern HP fandom (it was so small before; now it's practically unmanageable and yet nobody seems to write the rarepairings I want), the prospect of a movie and the last book in the same month is catching me back into the same excitement that was there years back when the 3rd book came out, and the fourth, and the first movie, etc.

Fic rec. Two this time. Both guyslash, actually. I've been reading a bit more of that lately, simply because I've read much of what I can find of my main femslash pairings already. Don't be fooled by the fact that the second one's rec is longer; that's only because I copied down my review to the author as well.

Mapmakers (Making Moony Laugh: the Suicide Is Painless Remix)
Remix Author: Casira
Original Story: Making Moony Laugh by Raven
Rating: PG-13
Fandom: Harry Potter
Summary: Discovering just who Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs are brings up even more questions for Fred -- and when fate takes another of them away, it's time to go back to the source for some answers.

Number one is a remix, the original of which I've yet to read (but the person who linked me to this one says that the original is one of her favorite fics too), and simply lovely. Sad, though; I'll admit my eyes were more than a little welled up at the end. It's Harry Potter, bits pre-Order of the Phoenix and bits post, and very Fred Weasley centered. Yeah, that's right, not Fred and George, Fred. Which sets it quite apart to begin with. Overall, it's Remus/Sirius, but though that's essentially the underlying drive for the entire story, she manages to yet focus it almost entirely on Fred. I've read so much excellent stuff in the last few days that I'm loath to say this for fear I'm forgetting something, but this is easily in my top 5 of this past week's fics, and I'd never give all-time numbers but this one is up there, especially for HP fandom.

Didymus
Author: Tafkar
Rating: PG
Fandoms: Deep Space Nine, Battlestar Galactica
Summary: Baltar finds a unique way to disarm an imminent threat.

Number two. I've been going through all the Multiverse 2005 fics for the past bunch of hours, and this one makes me smile. As do quite a few of them, but still. I got about half-way through this one and realized that I had to pass it along.

This is the pairing that everyone's always expecting, yet the first fic for it that I've seen.

Battlestar Galactica/Star Trek Deep Space Nine. Gaius Baltar/Julian Bashir. Trufaxyeah.

It's almost like Star Trek Mirror Universe porn (because Ezri/MU!Ezri and Kira/Intendant Kira are just too mindfucky hot for words), but sadly without the porn. But with the mindfuck. Literally, when you consider Six's role in the entire escapade.

Just because I have it on hand (meaning still on my copy-clipboard because I brought it over to be spellchecked), this was how I reviewed it. Not very technical or in-depth (it's much what I've already said), but in case it clarifies/further confuses things:

"Lovely. A mate of mine and I have been discussing the perfectness that is Baltar/Bashir since I first rediscovered BSG a bit more than a year ago, yet this was the first I've seen, so you can imagine my excitement when I realized that this was going to fit into that mold. Your Baltar is perfectly characterized, and I loved the bits with him trying to hide things from Six. When sending this to aforementioned mate, I described it as a little like Star Trek/Mirror Universe slash (because I've got a particular soft spot for the ST characters/their MU counterparts)--a little kinky, a dash of subterfuge and deception, and a lot of mindfuck inherent in the whole double/resemblance bit. I think this fits the mold quite well, as you capitalized on their physical similarities. I would have liked to see more about their mental similarities purely due to interest regarding how you'd write their reaction to such realization of deeper similarities, but as this is so early in their relationship, it's very much understandable that you kept to the physical.
Anyway, very much enjoyed. I'm glad others see the (what we think are) blatant similarities between the two, and that you have decided to thus exploit these for the purpose of this excellent piece of work."

Most of my love for this fic was due simply to the pairing, but it's also well written. I'd love to see it expanded into a longer series. (And I apologize to the author, because I think I sent you my review twice. How was I supposed to know that after you hit send, it doesn't give you any kind of feedback, and simply refreshes the page and blanks the form?)

Still sick. Up too late doing absolutely nothing because I've been sleeping a lot because of the sick, but am not tired yet because due to the sleeping late, I didn't wake up until like 9:30 this morning. Therefore, quizspam. )

My hands are cold. They get so quite often when I'm up late. No other part of my body, just my hands. Probably because they're away from the rest of the body because they're on the keyboard and such. Interesting. /way too much cough medicine

Joined a Harry Potter femslash Yahoo group/list thing. In Spanish. That's pretty wicked. I'm excited. I hope fics get posted loads. (If only my Spanish teachers knew what I was doing with what they have taught me.)
I'm flipping through the files for saved fics. And then throwing them into Babelfish just so I can scan through quickly and get an idea if I'll like it or not. The one I've got open right now looks really good, even through the botched altavista translation. I'm sort of reluctant to read it because it looks so good and I know that the botched translation that I'll get out of it, though much better than babelfish, won't do it justice. I already know that I'm going to need a dictionary to read it because just looking at the fakeyenglish, I'm seeing words that I know I don't know the Spanish for. Still going to try. I can just see it, though.
Me: "Señor, qué significa la palabra [some slangy type thing invariably connected to lesbian sex]?"
Him: (surprised) "Donde encontraste éste palabra?"
Me: "En una historia."
Him: "Qué tipo de historias lees?"
(Translationish: Sir, what does [some slangy type thing invariably connected to lesbian sex] mean? / Where did you come across this word? / In a story. / What kind of stories do you read?)

I kept putting off reading the Femslash Advent Calendar entries and putting them off and putting them off that I got on the computer tonight and realized that I only had like 2 hours to read as many as I could. So I did so. Which was great. I didn't read all of them before the voting deadline (I stopped 10 minutes before midnight to make sure that the form got sent in on time) and I skipped about 4 that were not in fandoms that I even vaguely knew, but I've since read all but the one that was part one of a bunch (because it wasn't in a primary fandom or a pairing that I ship and I didn't really want to spend a long time reading it) and the ones from fandoms I didn't know. And it turns out that I managed to have read all the best ones (and voted for them) before the voting; I didn't finish reading the rest and go "Oh, man, I wish I had voted for this one" or anything, which was nice. Except I almost did for one. But it was close. So I'm cool.

Found an ER fic that I'm almost positive I remember reading way back when. Not that far way back when, but probably two and a half years or so. Tis good.

Made some icons a few days ago. Because I spent lots of the entire weekend (including when I stayed home sick on Friday) watching my Xena dvds. Man, I love those girls. Haven't decided which icon/s are going to go so I can exercise the new one/s yet. Or, as evident by my repeated use of "/s", how many I'm going to swap out. Edit: Has since swapped. One from "Been There, Done That" for my hughsday/lisasday icon. Yay, Xena.

Noticed an increase in spam lately, so I took my email addy off of my profile page. If you need to know it and don't already, hit me up on here (though it's not hard to figure out).

Speaking of staying home sick on Friday. Somebody kept calling me. Freaked me out. This guy with a really heavy middle eastern (I think Indian, though I'm not as good at pinpointing location by accent in the middle east) accent kept calling on Wednesday and Thursday and though I didn't pick up the phone, my sister says he called again Friday, I assume trying to sell me something. And so I thought it was him calling and hanging up a few seconds after the answering phone picked up, but it was too often to be a telemarketer.
And the one time I picked up, I hear these voices in the background and nothing in the foreground, but I'm like okay, it's probably mum or dad and they put the phone to their chest to yell at their students or something, but then I say hello again and I swear, the guy goes "hello, sexy". So I freaked and hung up the phone. It was after this that he/it/whoever called back at least eight times (I'm assuming it was the same guy, but really no idea) and hung up after the answering machine kicked on.
But imagine it. I'm sick, home alone, pretty tired as I haven't gotten much good sleep at all lately though I'm in bed a lot because it's hard to sleep with a cold, and somebody keeps calling me. I was all like *Checks locks. Grabs katana. Keeps katana by side until others come home.* (Yeah. *has swords.* *is cool like that.* Though technically I suppose the real ones are my dad's. Still.)
I've got no idea who it could be; I don't hang out with the kind of person at school that would do that for a joke. I suppose anybody could have gotten my number from the phonebooks or whatever (though I think we might be unlisted, so that might be out), or possibly got it from a friend of a friend of a friend or something (which, if it were somebody that I knew/vaguely knew/could have known, I think is the most likely explanation), but still, what I keep coming back to as most likely is someone that I don't know at all. And that just . . . *shivers.*
I really wish I had caller id, because I would be all *looks up non-emergency number for the police. calls.* I considered doing it anyway, but without anything concrete or more than just a "hello sexy" and with no phone number or anything, I figured I'd just be wasting their time.

Just remembered that I've got more homework than I thought I had. Shit. I'm going to be up all frakking night. (Edit: Since I wrote this at 2am or so, I have been up all frakking night. Already. And have done nothing of the homework. Nice job. *pats self on back*)
